Dear Lakota Secondary Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to follow up with you about the changes to the 7-12 grade schedules for the upcoming school year. In May, I shared preliminary information about our new seven-bell schedule for all students in our junior and high schools, noting that they had not been finalized yet.

Since then, we have continued to work through the remaining details of this new schedule and are now able to share the finalized information. Here are some of the highlights:

The following schedule will take effect for all students in grades 7-12 beginning in the 2021-2022 school year:

  • All students in grades 7-12 will have a seven-bell schedule.
  • The additional bell is a dedicated academic support period for all students who did not previously register for seven bells. This new period will be held at different times throughout the day.
  • Students in grades 10-12 (main high school campuses) will attend school from 8:10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please note the change in time from the May email.
  • Students in grades 7-9 (junior schools and freshman campuses) will attend school from 7:20 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.
  • Senior flex will not be impacted by the new schedule.
  • Students will continue to have a daily advisory period.
  • Students will attend all classes every day. Block schedules will only be used as needed.

The idea of an academic support period was first discussed two years ago through student-teacher collaboration. While the pandemic forced us to put this idea on hold, we are excited to be able to fulfill this request and provide this support for our students. As our mission statement says, everything WE do is designed to provide a future-ready, student-centered learning experience for every single child.
