Brown LicheyLakota Local Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of two Lakota veterans as the new leaders at Union Elementary and Ridge Junior School for the 2017-2018 school year.

Stepping into the principal role at Ridge Junior is Ben Brown, who has led the Union Elementary community for the last five years. Replacing Brown will be Union’s Assistant Principal Kyle Lichey.

Brown brings more than 17 years of experience in education to his new post, 12 of which he has spent in leadership roles at Lakota. Before becoming principal at Union, he was assistant principal at Adena, Independence and Union elementary schools.

Lichey began his career at Lakota in 2008 as a teacher, first at Wyandot Early Childhood and later at Freedom Elementary. He began his path in administration at Union five years ago alongside Brown.

“I understand Mr. Brown and Mr. Lichey worked as a team the last several years to build an exceptional culture at Union,” said Lakota Superintendent Matt Miller. “I’m excited to see two of our top administrators take on new challenges, especially when it means bringing their energy and enthusiasm to another Lakota school.

Brown graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, before earning a Master’s degree from Xavier University. Lichey earned his Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education from Ohio State University before attending the University of Cincinnati for his Master’s degree.
