Every school year we celebrate our accomplishment and recognize the challenges ahead. This year is no different.
As we welcome students back for the new year, we can be very proud that our schools earned a strong rating of “Excellent With Distinction” on the State Report Card. In fact, this is our ninth consecutive, high rating from the state. This rating is in addition to all of the other and numerous accomplishments that our students earn in other areas and on and off the athletic fields.
We are humbled by the support that our Lakota community has shown to our students and schools over the years. That very support of our schools is what makes our success possible.
Looking ahead, this year is a defining one for our Lakota community. Our school district is on the brink.
We’ve enacted $13 million in deep and district wide cuts and reductions and have eliminated more than 50 teaching positions to-date. Without additional investment in our schools, we simply cannot maintain the excellence.
The November 2 emergency operating levy is a critical one for our schools. With it, we can continue offering high quality teaching for our students. Without it, we face an additional $12 million in cuts that hit to the core of excellence that has been built by our community over the years in Lakota.
Thank you for your continued support of our Lakota students and schools. Great communities really do have great schools.
