Eleven Lakota students are among the 16,000 National Merit Finalists being honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program. One Lakota student was named a National Achievement Finalist.
Finalists from Lakota West High School are Eric Dobson, Ryan Fore, Jacob Hamilton, Cameron Hammel, Alex Hart, Erika Lower, Rachel Sawicki and Daniel Shen.
Ryan Fore of Lakota West High School was named a National Achievement Scholarship Finalist. The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students.
Finalists from Lakota East High School are Kevin Li, Nathan Miller and Radihika Madhavan.
Originally chosen as National Merit Semifinalists as the highest scorers in the state, they advanced to become finalists because of their outstanding academic record, endorsement by the school principal, and high SAT scores.
National Merit Finalists are among the top students academically in the United States. They are among the top 2% of the more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) as juniors during the 2007-2008 school year.
