Collage of young children enjoying an ice cream social

WE are excited to welcome our new families to the “WE are Lakota” family at a special district-wide ice cream social on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Independence Elementary (7840 Princeton Road).

The Lakota Board of Education invites parents, staff and community members to attend a Community Conversation that will help the District begin to review and possibly reshape its current cell phone usage policy and administrative guidelines: PO5136 Personal Communication Devices. Mark your calendar for Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lakota West Freshman and be on the lookout for a ThoughtExchange launching Sept. 12 to provide input in advance of the in-person conversation.

Future Thunderhawks and Firebirds in grades K-6 are invited to participate in a special tradition alongside all their Eastside OR Westside peers.

Future Hawks Night, happening on Friday, Aug. 23 in Lakota East's stadium, is open to ONLY students attending an Eastside feeder early childhood or elementary school (Hopewell ECS, Liberty ECS, Wyandot ECS, Independence, Union, Woodland and VanGorden). Future Firebirds Night, happening on Friday, Sept. 27 (postponed from Aug. 30 due to the high heat index) in Lakota West's stadium, is open to ONLY students attending a Westside feeder early childhood or elementary school (Creekside ECS, Heritage ECS, Shawnee ECS, Adena, Cherokee, Endeavor and Freedom).

Culturally Diverse:

With 42% of students celebrating their multicultural backgrounds, Lakota provides a culturally-diverse experience where respect and inclusion are taught as core values.

Fiscally Responsible:

Fewer than 5% of all entities that are audited annually earn the "Auditor of State Award with Distinction" - and Lakota has received the honor 10 years in a row.

1:1 Technology:

Through Lakota's WE are Empowered initiative, all students in grades K-12 have access to their own Chromebook for daily learning.

Dogs of Lakota:

Lakota's pack of ten therapy dogs are wagging their tails around the district, providing therapy and emotional support to even our youngest learners.

The 4Es:

We believe in preparing every student for success after graduation in one of the 4Es: Enrollment in higher education; Enlistment in military service; Employment as a contributing member of our community; or Entrepreneurship.
