end of year updatesAs we enter the last few weeks of school, below are updates regarding assignments, the pick up of personal belongings, Chromebook drop off, refunds and celebrating our graduates.

Last Day of School

While the last day of school remains May 21 for Lakota students, the final week will be used to complete classwork and make-up assignments. The last day for seniors to receive new assignments will be May 8. For students in grades kindergarten through 11, the last day for new assignments will be May 15.

On May 1, the district announced that, due to directives from Gov. DeWine and the Ohio Department of Education, the class of 2020 will be celebrated virtually with a special video that will be shared the first week of June. The community will be able to celebrate our graduates through a Facebook live watch party. More information will be shared in the near future.

Light the Path for the Class of 2020

The community is invited to “light the path” for the Class of 2020. We encourage our community members to wrap a ribbon around a tree or lamp post in their yard on May 20 for Lakota West and May 22 for Lakota East. At 8:20 p.m. (2020 military time), please turn on your lights to honor our seniors on what should have been their graduation day.

Personal Belongings and Chromebooks

Students in grades 7-12 will be able to pick up any personal belongings at school beginning the week of May 11. Specific days and times will be communicated from individual schools.

Seniors will be able to turn in their district-owned chromebooks at this time as well. If a senior will need to keep their chromebook to finish assignments, take AP exams or for any other reason, please contact your school via email at (East) or (West).

For all other students in preschool through sixth grade, personal belongings will be able to be picked up from school the week of May 18. Specific instructions will be communicated by school principals.

Students should return any textbooks or library books when picking up personal belongings. For students in grades 7-12 who may need to keep a textbook to finish assignments by May 21, please make arrangements with your school. Students in grades 7-11 will keep their district-owned Chromebooks over the summer.

On April 23, Jenni Logan, treasurer/CFO of Lakota Local Schools, shared information regarding refunds in this video update. The first round of refunds were processed on April 24. This included:
- Partial refunds for course fees for seniors;
- Lunch refunds for seniors;
- Spring sports fees; and
- Preschool tuition for months not in school.

Lunch balances for all students other than seniors will be rolled over to the 2020-21 school year. Logan announced that there will most likely be a second round of refunds. “We just don’t have enough information at this current time” to process all refunds at once.
