When Lakota opens its doors on August 17, students and staff will notice many changes to help protect the safety and health of our Lakota community. In order to keep our schools open, it will be up to everyone to closely follow new procedures and protocols, including a daily COVID-19 health check.

Each morning before students and staff enter a Lakota school, everyone is asked to complete the Daily Health Assessment Checklist which includes taking your temperature. Students and staff members with a temperature above 100.0 degrees must stay home until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the help of medication.

The list includes many symptoms associated with COVID-19, and if a student or staff member has any of the symptoms listed that cannot be attributed to another health condition, they are advised to stay home until the symptom is resolved.

“Many symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other common illnesses and seasonal allergies and you can have the virus without having a fever,” said Lauren Brown, Lakota’s Manager of Health Services. “If any of the listed symptoms are new or start suddenly, please stay at home instead of coming to school. This year it is especially important for parents to keep students home if they do not feel well.”

If you have traveled outside of the United States or to any state reporting positive testing rates of 15% or higher for COVID-19, you are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days. Please check the Ohio Department of Health travel advisory map for the latest updates.

Lakota’s plans for reopening have been approved by the Butler County Health Department. As health officials evaluate the ever-changing situation and issue or modify health and safety protocols, the district will respond accordingly to follow the guidance to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
