Lakota Local Schools recently announced to its virtual families that the Lakota Virtual Learning Option will shift to grades 9-12 only for the 2022-2023 school year. Current VLO students in younger grades will return to in-person learning. Please see below for the entire email.

Dear Lakota VLO Families,

Two years ago, with all of the unknowns surrounding COVID-19, one thing we were sure of was that we needed to offer our families an option to continue remote learning in the fall of 2020. A group of teachers and administrators spent the summer taking our idea and making it a reality for 4,000 Lakota students in grades K-12 for the 2020-2021 school year.

As the pandemic continued, our VLO enrollment numbers have dropped dramatically to 350 students this year. With registration for the program having recently closed, enrollment stands at just over 100 students, grades K-12 for next year.

With more and more students returning to in-person learning, especially in grades K-8, we have made the decision to offer VLO to students in grades 9-12 only for the 2022-2023 school yearAs we shared last month, the program will merge with the Academy and be renamed Lakota Central.

Students in grades K-8 will automatically be enrolled in their school of record (home school) based on their home address. We realize that this may require a bit of an adjustment for our students. We encourage you to attend family events scheduled for your home school this spring, which are listed in the school newsletters or on their website. If you would like your student to attend an alternate school of choice instead of their home school, please follow the instructions on our website to submit your request.

I am proud of our teachers who have taken personalized learning to a whole new level through VLO. Our students who are returning to in-person learning will continue to receive personalized instruction, as this is a focus throughout Lakota.

Thank you to our parents who have stepped up to be learning partners over the past two years. We look forward to finishing this school year strong. Please be on the lookout as we plan ways to celebrate all that we have accomplished in VLO.

Thank you for all of your support of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Krista Heidenreich
