Hello Central Family-

I have been reflecting all week on just what it means when I say Central family. Family is an important, driving theme in all of our lives, but holds lots of different meanings and experiences for people. When I talk about this Central family, I am including the students, staff, guardians, parents, friends, and larger Lakota community in this group that encourages and allows us to do what we do everyday. I am so grateful it is at our center, the core of who we are. The Central family is a team, it is a group of people united in recognizing, celebrating and challenging each other to be the best versions of ourselves. We see each other for who we currently are, push each other to reach our goals, and hold space for each other in the most difficult or challenging moments. We want students to be successful and hopeful about their lives and their futures. We problem-solve together, are patient with one another, and see the progress made.  I am grateful for your partnership in this and for joining with our family, voluntarily, to make our students' lives better, more well-rounded, and full.

This was a good week of learning and growing,  including our last Big Cub/Little Cub mentorship group and we are wrapping up OST testing this week. We had a few seniors finish up the last of their assignments and “graduate” out. Several seniors picked up their caps and gowns and 12 of our students entered the Art competition in Montgomery where they can win a cash prize! The art exhibit will be open to the public at Terwilliger Lodge, 10530 Deerfield Road in Montgomery on Saturday, May 4th, 12:00-4:00 pm and Sunday, May 5th, 1:00-3:00pm. Additionally, we have a few students who submitted artwork to be on display this Saturday at West’s Prom (their theme is the Met Gala). West prom is from 8-12 PM on Saturday, April 27th at the Savannah Center and East’s prom is on Saturday, May 4th from 8-12 PM at the Sharonville Convention Center.

Next Thursday we will have our last Workforce “Wednesday” (the alliteration is better with Wednesday-even though it will be on Thursday). Students will rotate through 5 or 6 stations of guest speakers who will be talking about their pathway to being a nurse, entrepreneur, Vet Tech, Real Estate Agent, esthetician, and a mechanic. We are excited to have their insight and experience to offer to students. After our surveying of students, these were some of the most popular career fields. We hope students will be able to visualize their futures a little better after this event.

Reminder, we have one more day off school this year on May 7th, which is a special election day and that Graduation is May 13th at 7 PM. Doors open at 6 PM. Students MUST attend graduation practice on May 10th at 9 AM to participate.

Have a wonderful weekend.
