Principal Message 5/3

Principal Message 5/3

Hello Central Family-

We had a great week this week. We are getting closer to graduation, so we are busy writing speeches, finalizing lists, and passing tests. Our underclassmen are working through the last three weeks of their courses as well. They will finish on May 22nd and 23rd with culminating projects or tests, but will be expected to be at school.

We invited speakers in on Thursday to talk to students about career/life pathways. We had a mechanic, entrepreneur, esthetician, veterinarian, nurse, and real estate agent. We chose these various professions in response to what our students either said they were interested in or tested high in aptitude for performing. Students were engaged and asked good questions to all of them. We hope it sparks their ideas, goals, and motivation. If they have more questions, please encourage them to ask, we have some resources for next steps into those types of careers.

Today, we had 30 forensics and criminal law students attend a field trip at the Butler County jail. They learned about who works in a jail, what types of things forensic scientists do at the jail, and they bonded as a group. The students reported that it was a great experience.

Our 22 students who entered the Montgomery Art Show will have their artwork on Display this weekend on Saturday, May 4th 12 PM to 4 PM and Sunday, May 5th from 1 PM to 3 PM. We had 4 teachers enter their photos as well, so it will be a great event with student and teacher work displayed together. We are excited to celebrate their work.

Next week is our seniors' last week. All Lakota will NOT HAVE SCHOOL on TUESDAY. May 7th (election day). ALL SENIORS are expected at graduation practice on May 10th (this will count as an attendance day) from 10 AM until 12 PM. They should gather in Mrs. Woosley’s room in the Humanities building (Connected to West Freshman) no later than 10 AM. Please let us know if you cannot make it.  Seniors will turn in their chromebooks on Thursday, May 9th or Friday May the 10th to Mrs. Villani in the Humanities building. Students will not be able to walk at graduation (East, West, or Central) without having turned in their chromebook. Please make sure you turn in the Chromebook itself, the charger, the case, and the stylus. If you have a loaner out, we need that back too and will not allow you to walk until it is either paid for or returned. The last day to turn in their work will be Thursday, May 9th if they plan to attend graduation.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
