Curriculum Adoption Update: Material Review Opens March 18
March 15, 2024: This story has been updated to change the start date for the review to March 18.
The Lakota Curriculum and Instruction department invites community members to view the math and English language arts (ELA) materials it will recommend to the Board of Education. A team of Lakota administrators and teachers have vetted several different sources, including the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce mandated ELA materials.
Earlier this school year, it was announced that public school districts in Ohio would be required to adopt a new ELA curriculum based on the Science of Reading. In addition to this adoption, the district’s math curriculum was already scheduled to be reviewed. Because of this, district leaders moved forward with both subjects.
The materials will be available for review at Lakota’s Central Office from March 18-28 and April 1 during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Once visitors have viewed the materials, they are invited to share their feedback with the curriculum department using the forms provided at Central Office. The final recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education for approval in April.
The selected materials are:
K-6 ELA | Imagine Learning EL + Heggerty Bridge to Reading |
K-6 Math | Imagine Learning Illustrative |
7-12 ELA | Savvas My Perspectives |
7-12 Math | Amplify Desmos Illustrative |
