Lakota Names Randy Bertram as Interim Treasurer

Lakota Names Randy Bertram as Interim Treasurer

The Lakota Board of Education has named Randy Bertram interim treasurer for the 2026-2027 school year. His appointment was approved at the May 20, 2026 Board of Education meeting.

Bertram brings more than 25 years of experience in Ohio public school finance, including the last 12 years at Middletown City Schools.

“As a neighboring district leader, I have long respected and closely observed the impact of Lakota’s ‘WE are Lakota’ culture,” Bertram said. “This shared commitment to students, staff and community partnerships aligns closely with my own values.”

During his time at Middletown, Bertram provided strong fiscal leadership that improved the district’s financial position. He also oversaw major master facilities projects, including a partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). This experience will be valuable as Lakota continues discussions related to its own Master Facilities Plan and partnership with the OFCC.

“Mr. Bertram has built a strong reputation as a trusted financial leader over his career in Ohio school finance,” said Board President Kelley Casper. “His experience in both financial stewardship and facilities planning makes him well suited to serve Lakota during this transition.”

After beginning its search, the Board chose to pause and appoint an interim treasurer to ensure a thoughtful and thorough process for selecting a long-term leader.

“Finding the right person to oversee Lakota’s finances is a responsibility we take very seriously,” Casper said. “We are confident Mr. Bertram will provide steady leadership as interim treasurer while we continue our search.”

Bertram announced his retirement from Middletown earlier this year. Under his leadership, the district received the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting each year and the Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction three times. Most recently, Bertram was honored with the 2026 Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Association of School Business Officials.

Bertram will officially begin his role with Lakota on August 1, he will begin transitioning into the position over the summer alongside Lakota’s current treasurer, Adam Zink.
