Preview of This Year's Light Up Lakota Coming March 11

Preview of This Year's Light Up Lakota Coming March 11

Lakota Local Schools is excited to host the fourth annual “Light Up Lakota!” school showcase at Lakota East High School from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

Lakota's biggest district-wide event of the year, “Light Up Lakota!” will shine the spotlight on the coursework, extracurricular activities, programs and services that Lakota students enjoy every single day.

"If you go to just one Lakota event all year, make this the one," said Lakota Superintendent Ashley Whitely. "This is a spectacular tradition that gives our students an opportunity to share what learning looks like for them day in and day out. Not only is it a great way for our youngest learners to see what's next for them, but also for our parents and the community as a whole to peek inside our schools."

Beyond the traditional school showcase on Main Street that includes a booth for each of Lakota’s 23 schools (detailed below), featured presentations and performances in the auditorium will showcase programs at every grade band that make up the Lakota experience. Spotlight sessions will include:

  • 6:00 p.m. - "Alice by Heart" Spring Musical Preview (Lakota East Theater)
  • 6:10 p.m. - "Everyone's a Suspect" Family Literacy Night (Independence Elementary)
  • 6:20 p.m. - Woodwind Quintet Musical Performance (Lakota East Band)
  • 6:30 p.m. - Design & Modeling Elective (Hopewell Junior School & Butler Tech)
  • 6:40 p.m. - Project Based Learning Meets Community Service (Heritage ECS)
  • 6:50 p.m. - "Les Misérables" Spring Musical Preview (Lakota West Theatre)
  • 7:00 p.m. - Personalized Learning in "LINCC" Lab (Lakota East Freshman)
  • 7:10 p.m. - Exercise Science Teaches Inclusivity (Lakota West High School & Butler Tech)
  • 7:20 p.m. - Plains Junior Choir Performance

Additionally, an art gallery will put on display student talent and visual arts projects from most Lakota schools.

The event is open to the entire community. Attendees will be able to enjoy the open house format of the evening around the scheduled presentations they wish to hear more about. All attendees will also receive a special light-up Lakota giveaway (while supplies last).

Special thanks to the Lakota East Student Broadcasting Club for live streaming the presentations and performances from its YouTube channel.
