Boys Basketball:
Last night our 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams faced off against GMC powerhouse, Crossroads. The 7th grade boys were down six points at halftime, but came out victorious with a strong second half performance. Jordan Narvaez and Dominick Dials dominated the boards while Labron Lumpkins, Noah Hamre, and Sam Harold took care of the basketball against Crossroads’ press defense.
The 8th grade Firebirds were able to tie the game and force overtime with 2 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, it was a complete team effort that allowed the Firebirds to come away with the 35-32 victory!
The 7th grade and 8th grade teams are now 2 - 0 to start the season!
Girls Basketball:
Congratulations to our 7th grade girls who defeated Delhi last night by the score of 25-14. The team was led by Jackie Smith and Avery Weldele with 10 points a piece and Isabelle Saunders with 5 points. The Firebirds played solid defense in the 4th quarter to pull away for the win.
Our 8th grade girls also started the season off with a 40-5 win over Delhi. Peyton Farkas came off the bench to lead all scorers with 11 points and Brooklyn Tabor helped out by adding 8 points. Charlotte Wade, Mackenzie Sparnall, and Anne-Marie Wambugu pitched in with a solid defensive effort to help shut down the Eagles. The Firebirds are back on the court Thursday when they take on Crossroads in Fairfield.
