Annual Organizational Meeting of Lakota Board of Education

Annual Organizational Meeting of Lakota Board of Education

The Lakota Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting on Jan. 9. School boards in Ohio are required to hold this meeting within the first 15 days of the month. All five board members continue to serve in their current terms.

Lynda O’Connor and Isaac Adi were approved as president and vice president respectively 4-1, with member Darbi Boddy voting no to both. “I want to thank my board members who put forth Mr. Adi and me to serve in these roles for a second year,” said O’Connor. “We have challenges in our district. However, I believe that we can work together to keep our focus and energy on doing what is best to educate and support our more than 17,000 kids. That’s what we have to do in order to keep Lakota Local Schools moving forward.”

In addition to officer elections, the Board also approved liaisons to the following committees

Board Policy Committee: All school board members
Diversity Committee: All school board members
Facilities Committee:  All school board members
Safety Committee:  All school board members
Business Advisory Committee:  Isaac Adi, Lynda O’Connor
Community Engagement Committee: Kelley Casper, Lynda O’Connor
Finance Committee:       Darbi Boddy, Julie Shaffer
Legislative Committee: Lynda O’Connor, Kelley Casper
OSBA Capital Conference Delegate:  Lynda O’Connor, Kelley Casper (alternate)

Shaffer will continue to represent Lakota on the Butler Tech Board of Education.

Regular meeting dates and work sessions for the 2023 calendar year will be held on the first and third Mondays of the month. For the months of February, March, July and December, only one meeting has been scheduled at this time. The second meeting in June will be the fourth Monday of the month due to financial filings due to the State. Additional meetings, which are commonly referred to as special meetings, will be added as needed to address issues that were not anticipated at the time of the organizational meeting.

Committee meeting dates were also set. All committee meetings will continue to be public, with the exception of the safety committee, which will meet during executive session.

Policy and community engagement committees will meet on the first Friday of each month. The safety and diversity committees will meet on the alternating first Friday of each month. The facilities committee will meet on the first Monday of each month, prior to the regular board meeting.

The schedules for both regular and committee meetings will be posted on the school board calendar.
