Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, current tuition-based preschool students - as well as new and returning preschoolers who qualify for classroom-based special education services - are guaranteed enrollment in the Lakota preschool program hosted at VanGorden Elementary and Liberty Early Childhood School. At this time, we cannot guarantee the availability of new tuition-based spots in the preschool program.
Lakota’s preschool program was established due to special education laws and regulations, most notably the federal law known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). While Lakota’s program includes a tuition-based option for children with typical development, the district is not required to offer a minimum number of seats for this subset of students.
As a result, Lakota must be responsive to the unique needs of our special education students first. Looking at our projected student enrollment for next school year against such factors as physical classroom space and staffing to meet student needs, it would be premature to open registration at this time.
Lakota will continue analyzing program capacity against projected enrollment to determine the availability of new tuition-based spots next school year. This number fluctuates from one year to the next and a lottery format is used to fill the available spots. A timeline and details for such a lottery will be announced as we gain clarity on this status.
