When to Stay Home

sick child

Deciding when to keep your child home from school can be difficult.

When a child is ill and needs to stay at home, parents should contact the school attendance line to report the illness and symptoms.

For the health and safety of all students, staff, and families, it is important that children do not attend school when they are sick. Staying home at the appropriate time helps reduce the spread of illness to others and protects your child from additional infections while their immune system is weakened.

If your child tests positive for COVID‑19 or influenza, please follow your healthcare provider’s guidance regarding when your child should stay home and when it is safe to return to school. If you are unsure whether your child should attend school or have specific health concerns, please contact your healthcare provider or the building nurse for guidance.
