COVID-19 Information

Coronavirus is a type of virus common around the world, but COVID-19 is new. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath. These viruses spread through coughing or sneezing, similar to influenza. 

Please follow the guidelines below to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Lakota Schools is working closely with the Butler County Health Department to stay up to date with concerns and illness trends in our area. 
As a district, please know the following:

  • We are closely monitoring the CDC updates and recommendations.

  • Lakota Schools is working very closely with state and local officials, and is receiving regular updates COVID-19. We will be advised by the health department regarding school closures to protect the safety of our students and families. 

  • We recommend that families check the CDC's website and follow any travel advisories.

Should my child be tested for COVID-19?

Please contact your family physician for guidance if you or a family member, including your child, begins showing symptoms of COVID-19. If you receive a positive test result, per the Butler County Health Department, you must self-isolate for 10 days or longer if symptoms persist.  We ask that you notify our school so that we are aware of your student’s absence and may support their continued learning.

 

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Reported symptoms in children include cold-like symptoms, such as fever, runny nose and cough, as well as shortness of breath. Vomiting and diarrhea have also been reported. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that symptoms in children appear milder than in adults. 

 

What safety precautions are being followed?

As a reminder, these safety protocols remain in place:

  • Every student is required to wear a mask or neck gaiter, except during mask breaks when students can be more than six feet apart;
  • We are adhering to six feet of physical distancing, when possible, while requiring face coverings at all other times;
  • Hand sanitizer stations are available at the entrance to our building; and
  • Cleaning and sanitation of work spaces takes place in between every class change.

 

How can I protect myself and my family from contracting COVID-19?

Governor DeWine is recommending social distancing, which includes staying six feet away from others when possible, wearing a mask and proper hand washing. According to the CDC website, the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person contact, similarly to influenza.
